Rev. Earl E. Nance Jr., Recovering; But Needs Help With Medical Bills
One of the Evening Whirl’s most loyal and professed readers, the Reverend Earl E. Nance Jr. has helped so many people in need, since taking over his father’s church, Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church on Euclid in North St. Louis. Rev. Nance has helped those seeking employment, those in need of utility assistance, those who needed spiritual guidance, and even some elected officials, who required a sense of community direction; young men and women looking for after school projects, educators in a controversial public school system, and even those in the religious community needing honest and open dialogue with other faiths.
Unfortunately, as previously reported in the mainstream media, the Reverend Nance suffered a major heart attack in December of 2011, requiring significant dollars to help him continue on the road to recovery. Since the previous media announcement of Nance’s condition, family has said that he is making a positive and steady recovery. But we all know that hospital bills and associated medical costs are outrageously expensive.
Reverend Nance Jr., is the newly elected chairman of the Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club Board of Directors and has spent the majority of his life helping others. “Rev. Earl Nance Jr. has been there for us, as well as the clergy, civic and entire community at-large,” said Odell Hendricks, board vice-chair of Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club in an appeal’s letter to community leaders and board members. “Now it’s time for us to be there for him as he struggles to recover from a massive heart attack.”
“We can show our love collectively by forwarding a contribution to The Rev. Earl Nance, Jr. Medical Fund. This fund was set-up by St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay,” concluded Hendricks.
The Reverend Nance Jr., is also a former president of the St. Louis Board of Education and The St. Louis Metropolitan Clergy Coalition. He is current chair emeritus for Heat-Up St. Louis and Cool Down St. Louis, and co-chair of its agency allocation committee; and is involved in a host of other community projects and efforts.
“Rev. Nance is one of the backbones of Heat-Up St. Louis, and his compassion is unmeasured for the needy,” said Melanie DiLeo, board chairwoman, HUSTL. “We miss Rev. Nance’s insightful counsel, and as he recovers, all of those charities he has helped surely continue with positive prayers for his full healing; and we know his mission of helping mankind, is just around the corner.”
Members of the family insist that small or large donations are welcomed. You can drop-off a donation by visiting any area local First Bank or mail a check payable to: Viola H. Nance Support Fund For the Benefit of Rev. Earl E. Nance Jr., c/o 4146 W. Pine Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108.
The Evening Whirl’s ownership and associates extend their heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery to one of our most supportive community leaders and readers, Rev. Earl E. Nance Jr.
